Cuídate is a community organization focused on the unique health issues in the East Orlando area. East Orlando has a large population of Hispanics with very high rates of chronic illness, especially heart disease and diabetes. A large number of people in East Orlando do not have health insurance. The East Orlando hospital emergency department is the fullest in the area, creating extremely long waits and sometimes people are leaving without seeing a doctor.

Meet the Cuídate Staff

Natalia Cabrero
Project Manager

At the young age of 9 Natalia Cabrero moved to the East Orlando area from San Juan, Puerto Rico where she was born. Natalia has considered this community her home for the past 17 years, with the exception of her move to Gainesville, FL where she attended the University of Florida. At that time she earned a bachelors degree in Psychology.

Once out of college she worked at Shands HealthCare for the University of Florida where Natalia realized that her passion was in healthcare and helping the community. At that institution she discovered the field of social work and the many amazing contributions she could make to society by combining her passion for healthcare and her love for public health.

Natalia enrolled at Florida State University where she earned a master's degree in Social Work. After the birth of her daughter she decided that it was time to move back home, Orlando. At that time she was blessed with the opportunity to work with the Cuídate eastside initiative and her desire to help the Hispanic community as it relates to healthcare became a reality.

Michael Dorta
Health Coordinator

Raised by a Social Worker Michael learned very quickly about caring for his community and working towards a better tomorrow from his mother. Being born and living in Brooklyn, New York, Michael saw firsthand the many needs that the Hispanic community faces in the United States.

At the age of twelve he moved to the small town of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico where he became connected to his heritage and gained in-depth learning of his culture. It was at this time that his desire for helping the Hispanic community was born.

At the age of 16 he relocated to Orlando, Florida and finished his high school degree at Colonial High School. He later received his Associates degree from Valencia Community College and believing in changing the community for the better, Michael enrolled at the University of Central Florida to complete a Bachelors degree in social work.

Michael believes in empowering individuals through education and information. He believes that the Cuídate program will be a great resource for the Hispanic community to learn to become independent with their healthcare needs. Michael is very enthusiastic about making a change in people's lives.

Damaris Rodriguez
Health Coordinator

Raised by a Pastor Damaris Rodriguez got her love to help the community from her father. Through her strong ties to God and the Christian community she learned how to show her humanitarian side by empowering the Hispanic community of Orlando in her morning radio shows in AM 1270's "Despertando con Radio Luz" and "Simplemente mujer".

Damaris was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico where she attended the University of Puerto Rico and completed her degree in Arts and Sciences. She later realized that her love for learning about God and wanting to spread the word was strong, and that is when she enrolled at the Southern Spanish Bible Institute in Orlando, where she earned a bachelors degree in Theology.

For the past 20 years while living in Orlando she has witnessed the changing community and their many needs, this is why she has made it her life's work to help Hispanics and the community at large through the Cuídate Initiative.

Our primary goal is to promote good health practices and link the Hispanic  residents of East Orlando with valuable community resources.

Building a network of collaboration is essential to the initiative success.
As the project is getting started, the following organizations have expressed support and desire to make Cuídate a real Value.
